Application: Fish Tank Platform

Product:  Single level galvanized mezzanine with ladders on each end.

Company Overview:

  • The Conservation Fund is a U.S.-based nonprofit organization established in 1985 with a mission to integrate environmental preservation and economic development. Headquartered in Arlington, Virginia, the Fund operates nationwide to protect America's land and water resources through innovative conservation solutions.

Challenge

The Conservation Fund needed a highly durable and purpose-built platform to support heavy fish tanks in a moist, research-intensive environment. The structure not only had to withstand exposure to water and humidity but also integrate seamlessly with overhead utilities like lighting and air lines essential to their daily operations. The client required a corrosion-resistant finish, efficient water drainage, and OSHA-compliant safety features—without disrupting the ongoing research happening in the facility. The location also posed logistical considerations, with a need for precise on-site coordination in a small-town setting.

The Safety Source Galvanized Mezzanine Solution

The Safety Source, specialists in designing and installing customized safety and storage solutions, stepped in to address The Conservation Funds spatial challenges. Our approach was multi-faceted:

  1. Initial Consultation and Design: Through detailed consultations with The Conservation Fund, we gained an in-depth understanding of their specific needs, workflow, and long-term goals. Our design team then developed a durable, corrosion-resistant mezzanine system. The structure was needed to safely elevate large fish tanks used for testing feed formulas and environmental variables—while also supporting infrastructure like lighting and airline delivery systems.

  2.
  3. Custom Mezzanine Installation:

The Safety Source coordinated the delivery and full installation of the mezzanine system onsite in Shepherdstown. The platform was installed with minimal disruption to ongoing operations and was completed within the required project timeline.

  4.
  5. Our team handled:

-Structural design and engineering

-Fabrication and galvanizing of all components

-Transportation and staging

-Onsite installation and quality control

  1.
  2. Special Considerations:

-The environment required a finish that could withstand high moisture levels without rust or corrosion—making hot-dip galvanization the ideal choice.

-The open grating deck allows for water drainage and air circulation, essential in a facility housing aquatic tanks.

-The overhead structure was designed to align directly above the fish tanks, providing easy integration for lighting and airlines used in daily operations.
