LED Lighting Case Study – Magna

The Safety Source approached Magna Seating in reference to providing a turnkey LED lighting proposal to upgrade their interior and exterior lighting to new energy efficient LED fixtures. The Safety Source provided a free no-cost, no-obligation proposal and once approved handled the application paper work in order to secure the largest energy rebate available from DTE Energy. The lighting project took three weekends to complete. The Safety Source worked around the hectic ever changing production schedule at this facility. The entire building envelope was retrofitted with energy efficient LED fixtures and lamps, including high bay, task, inspection, office fixtures as well as all parking lot and wall packs on the exterior of the 350,000 sq. ft. facility. The LED upgrade resulted in the following savings, improved light levels and maintenance costs avoidance. These LED fixtures have a 100,000 hour life expectancy and come with 5 and 10 year manufacture warranty.

SCOPE OF WORK

Reduced high bay lighting energy consumption by 57% by replacing 485 each T5 6 lamp fluorescent fixtures that consumed 356 watts
each with 456 each 159W LED fixtures that have a 100,000 hour life expectancy and 5 year warranty

Reduced task lighting energy consumption by 74% by replacing 140 each T12 & T8 8 ft 2 lamp fluorescent fixtures that consumed 192
watts with 140 each 50W LED strip retrofits with 5 year warranty.

Reduced office lighting energy consumption by 50% by replacing 402 each T8 2 & 3 lamp fixtures with 402 each T8 18W LED tubes that
have a 50,000 hour life expectancy and 5 year warranty.

Reduced exterior HID parking lot & wall packs consumption by 74% by replacing 44 each 400 watt metal halide parking lot and wall pack
fixtures that consumed 460 watts with 44 each 120W LED fixtures with 100,000 hour life expectancy and 5 year warranty.

Annual Electricity Savings $100,800.

Reduced maintenance costs by $10,000 annually, no need to replace lamps or ballasts for minimum of 5 years.
