Challenge

Culligan Ultrapure required additional usable space inside its Austin, Texas facility without expanding the building footprint or disrupting ongoing operations. To address this need, The Safety Source designed and installed a compact industrial steel mezzanine engineered to support storage and light operational use while maintaining safe clearances and code-compliant access.

The project delivered vertical space efficiently, providing Culligan Ultrapure with a durable, long-term solution at a significantly lower cost than traditional construction or facility expansion.

The Safety Source Mezzanine Solution

The Safety Source designed and installed a custom industrial steel mezzanine to help Culligan Ultrapure maximize vertical space within its existing Austin facility. The solution consisted of a compact 11’ x 12’ (148 sq. ft.) mezzanine engineered for a 125 PSF live load, providing durable and code-compliant support for storage and light operational use. The platform featured galvanized welded bar grating decking for strength and drainage, heavy-duty steel columns with reinforced base plates, and a 42-inch-wide stairway with bar grating treads and closed risers for safe access. To ensure employee safety and regulatory compliance, the mezzanine included IBC-compliant handrails, a lift-out rail section, and integrated kick plates. Designed with a 120-inch deck height and over 9 feet of clear height below, the mezzanine delivered added capacity without interfering with existing workflows, all while offering long-term durability through galvanized construction.
