The OEL AFW40LF-NJB-W Kit is a 40 cal arc flash protection ensemble designed for workers who require reliable, compliant protection in energized environments. It includes a 40 CAL jacket and 40 CAL bib-overall, paired with a Class E-rated hard hat, a faceshield with a clear lift-front lens, and an assembled lift-front hood. This kit is built around OEL’s approach to arc-rated garments, emphasizing domestic manufacturing and testing to meet applicable safety standards for arc flash clothing. The garment fabric is described as an 88/12 premium Indura cotton blend, intended to deliver a balance of comfort and protection, with non-metallic, non-conductive components used where feasible. The package also includes storage options: a headgear storage bag and a compact duffle bag for portability and organization.
Key construction and design features noted in the product data include a lift-front hood style and dual reinforced stitching, along with ventilation considerations such as auto and indirect air ventilation options in some configurations. The kit’s accessories are designed to support quick donning and practical use in field settings, with added emphasis on items that support a complete protection system, including a lift-front hood and compatible face shield.
When evaluating use cases and maintenance, users should consider that the kit is rated for 40 CAL/cm² (CAT4) and is aligned with NFPA 70E, CSA Z462, ASTM F1506 & F2178, and OSHA 1910.269 requirements, indicating broad compliance for arc-rated clothing used in electrical and related work. Washing instructions specify bleach or hydrogen peroxide, which informs cleaning practices to preserve material performance. The product is Navy in color and is intended for individual package use. For compatibility, the kit clearly pairs with a Class E hard hat and HT clear faceshield, and it lists the included components to simplify purchasing decisions.
