CGW 48261 is a firm resin fibre disc back-up pad designed for use with 4-1/2 inch diameter abrasive discs on 5/8-11 threaded arbors. This back-up pad supports coarse-grit grinding tasks, helping to maintain disc form and improve contact stability during grinding operations. The pad features spiral ribs that create contact points and form air channels, which assist in cooling and air flow to extend life of the abrasive disc by reducing heat buildup. Larger air holes further promote cooling and contribute to longer disc life, making this pad suitable for more demanding grinding applications where heat management is important. The product offers a choice between flexible rubber pads, recommended for contours and irregular surfaces, and rigid pads, which tend to endure aggressive grinding conditions for longer periods. This variety supports both contouring work and heavier material removal scenarios, depending on the application.
With a 4-1/2 inch diameter and a 5/8-11 arbor/shank size, this back-up pad is intended for compatible discs and grinders that accept that standard configuration. The package is Size: Each, with a single pad per unit, and a maximum operating speed of 11,000 RPM, which aligns with typical performance envelopes for medium grit resin fibre discs. Users should ensure their grinder and discs are rated for these specifications and replace pads when wear affects contact or cooling efficiency. Proper use includes selecting the pad type (flexible vs rigid) based on the workpiece geometry and material removal goals, and maintaining appropriate gap and pressure to maximize disc life and finish quality.
