The CGW 48240 is a 9-inch polymer resin fibre disc backup pad designed to accompany fibre disc wheels in heavy grinding and surface finishing tasks. This backup pad provides a stable, resilient support surface that helps maintain consistent contact between the grinding disc and the workpiece, which can enhance control and finish during abrasive operations. The medium-density rubber construction is suitable for use with coarse grits, and the design incorporates spiral ribs that create contact points while forming air channels. These channels improve airflow behind the disc, contributing to cooler operation and potentially extending disc life by reducing heat buildup.
The pad offers a balance between flexibility and durability. Flexible rubber variants are recommended for contour work, while rigid pads may perform better in aggressive grinding applications due to their longer service life. The combination of larger air holes and the ribbed geometry supports more effective cooling and debris evacuation, which can help reduce glazing and prolong usable life of both the backup pad and the abrasive disc. For users selecting accessories, this pad is specified for a 9" disc with a 5/8-11 arbor/shank compatibility and a maximum RPM rating of 6600, with packaging listed as a single unit per package.
When integrating this backup pad into grinding routines, verify the disc size and arbor match your tooling setup and maintain appropriate wheel speed to stay within the rated RPM. The product is listed for facility maintenance applications and is sold as a single-piece unit, enabling straightforward compatibility with compatible 9" fibre discs and standard 5/8-11 hardware.
